Oil Drilling Tools

2010-7-6

Oil is an essential commodity that is also known as "liquid gold." Oil is formed under the Earth's crust due to plant and animal waste decomposition under high temperature and pressure. This oil is then used for various purposes; the most common being the automobile. Various types of equipment are used to drill out this oil from the Earth's crust.

Stabilizer
Whenever oil is to be extracted, a hole is dug up in the Earth's crust. Since the crust is not uniform, it has lots of boulders and rocks, the path of hole-digging is not constant. A stabilizer is a drilling tool set up near the drill collar to change or maintain the drilling angle. It maneuvers to a contact point between the drill collar and the hole according to your requirement to accomplish the task.

Drill Collars
A drill collar is a heavy, thick-walled tube attached to the drilling pipe to keep it under tension. The stabilizer is joined to one of the ends. It is made up of steel and is very durable.

Drill Pipes
As the name suggests, drill pipes are steel pipes that are used to draw out oil from the Earth's crust. These are generally of two types -- heavyweight and lightweight. Heavyweight pipes are used where the rocks are harder, and lightweight pipes are used at relatively softer regions of Earth. An analysis is carried out in the drilling region to ascertain different type of hard and soft regions.

Vapor Recovery Unit
Apart from the oil that we obtain by using the above mentioned equipments, there are a lot of gases that come out too. These gases are collected by the vapor recovery unit.
